Abuse, rape and domestic violence in Tonga
22-09-09 04:02

Rape and domestic violence still go largely unreported in Tonga especially against women and children.

The new Women and Children Crisis Centre are aiming to raise awareness about this issue and will encourage more women and children to speak out against these types of abuse.

The community needs to be made aware that these types of violence against women and children are crimes. We are under the illusion that Tonga being a church going and family unity country does not have these kind of crimes.

It is sad but true, rape and domestics violence abuse is happening in our very back yard.

Ofa Likiliki and her staff have opened there Centre, located in Fanga behind the old Melie-Mei-Langi building.

They are appealing assistance and support from the public for donors to help financially and to furnish the Centre. Staff currently sit on the floor as there are no furniture's and the 16 staff working are all volunteers.
