Former cleaner charged over immigration offences
01-09-09 05:52

A former cleaner for Attorney General Baroness Scotland, Ms Otolose Loloahi Tapui, has been charged over immigration offences in the UK.

Charges include possession of a false identity document, fraud by false representation and overstaying leave to remain.

Baroness Scotland employed Ms Tapui, who is from Tonga, in good faith and thought she was working in the UK legally. Ms Tapui was sacked when information regarding her immigration status came to light.

Simon Clements, head of the Crown Prosecution Service's special crime division, said;

"Following an investigation by the UK Border Agency, I received a file of evidence on 9 November. I have decided there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute these offences."

Ms Tapui will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 7 December.

Ms Tapui's husband, Alexander Zivancevic, has accepted a caution for assisting unlawful immigration and is not facing further charges.
