Squash growers are relieved to see the last shipment of squash ship out on the last week of November. The 5th shipment left for markets in Japan, Korea and the U.K.
Squash Council Chairman, Minolu Nishi Jr said although growers and exporters decreased in number this year, they were able to cope through with good hope for next year.
The Nishi Trading Company was able to ship out more than 60 tonnes in their last shipment, while Global Trading shipped 4 containers.
Global Trading General Manager 'Aisake Tuiono said he feels relieved, foreseeing that the continuation of the Industry, very much depends on the success of this year.
He revealed his support of the Squash Industry saying that it is not only growers that reap the fruit of their work; there are other related people who share the benefit first by working in the Industry.
In addition, Minolu Jr adds he's concern about maintaining the quality of the squash before it reaches the market in order not to have the same problem they encountered last year. Minolu Jr hopes they will not come across it again.
He adds this is a good break for growers as we move towards Christmas and New Year, with preparation for next years squash beginning in March.
Minolu Jr looks forward for a much better yield next year.
