Police have charged a father in his 40's for abandoning his child where he is obliged by the law to take care of.
Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau says they received complaints from the mother of the child, that the father abandoned them on November 30th, and since then, he has not returned home.
According to police, the father in his 40's has a legal obligation to take care of his one year old son.
This is seen as an offence under the Criminal Act.
Parents who are convicted of neglecting their legal responsibility to their children are liable to pay up to one-thousand pa'anga or three years of imprisonment or both under the Act.
In the meantime police is looking for an 18 year young man of Havelu who allegedly stabbed his father with a sharp object earlier this month. The 48 year old father is from Haveluloto.
The incident occurred earlier this month where a 48 year old father was stabbed. He was rushed to Vaiola hospital, sustaining major injuries to his stomach and head. Police believed he was stabbed with a sharp object by his son.
The father was discharged from the hospital yesterday.
According to the Commander Faletau it's believed the incident was related to alcohol consumption.
Commander Faletau is warning local youth to cut down on their alcohol consumption or to drink in moderation.
And in other news, with Christmas just around the corner, Commander Faletau reminds the public that it is prohibited to import fireworks into the Kingdom without proper authorization from Police. This also applies to distributing and lighting fireworks in public and other places.
He points out that people should be more cautious of using fireworks especially when Christmas and New Year is just around the corner.
