Tonga thrives to be well prepared for natural disasters after battling the recent tsunami and earthquakes.

This is vital considering we are currently in the hurricane season.

Member of the Natural Disaster Committee, 'Ofa Fa'anunu is currently in Hawaii as part of the discussions for an effective siren to be used in the kingdom.

Information acquired by Radio Tonga News states the one week trip will also look at other proper equipment that might be necessary.

In an interview with Geologist, Kelepi Mafi he says, after a survey conducted in Tongatapu, they were able to identify a lot of people wants them to establish a siren to help create awareness on a wider scale in the villages, so that it will give them ample time to prepare.

Kelepi says the Government has approved the establishment of a siren in Niuatoputapu while the ones for Vava'u, Ha'apai and Tongatapu are still to being discussed.

Tongatapu needs more than 10 sirens; however there is a setback because of the lack of funds and also finding one that is cost effective.

Kelepi adds, some of the decisions will be finalized when 'Ofa returns back this week from Hawaii.

The Committee is hoping that all work with regards to the siren will all be finalized by early next year.
