The Teacher's Training College together with the Tonga Institute of higher Education's Graduation was held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall last Thursday.
According to available information 179 were graduated from both Institutes. The graduation highlight 8 journalism pioneers who were awarded with Diploma.
The courses were initially funded by the Australian Government but now it's been run by the Tongan Government. The pioneers includes 4 journalism from Tonga Broadcasting Commission includes Ema Vea, Anau Fonokalafi, Rhonda Moala and Fatai Fainga'aa, one from the Matangitonga Online Linny Folau , Telesia Adam from Taimi 'oTonga Newspaper, Tevita Motulalo from Talaki Newspaper and Folauhola Siale from the Japanese Ambassador's Office.
According to Telesia Adam of the Taimi 'o Tonga Newspaper, the achievement was a new stage of knowledge for her as a journalist in Tonga for she is lucky to join the course and become one of the pioneers. She also elaborate that most of the junior journalism was out of high school and with no experience and skills but with this courses it helps to develop the skills and knowledge of journalism for they play an important role in the country.
There are 3 main courses taught at the Tonga Institute of Higher Education and it includes Computer, Accounting and Journalism. The Tonga Institute of Education also have training for pre-school teachers.
The guest of honour was her Royal Highness Princess Salote Mafile'o Pilolevu Tuita.
